• What is an eye cyst?

  An eye cyst is a small lump that forms along the eyelid. It contains liquid, or sometimes semi-solid material. It can feel sore and look unsightly, but won’t affect your vision.

• How can I treat an eye cyst?

  Sometimes, you can treat the problem at home with an eye bag, which is heated in the microwave and simply placed on the affected area. You can also treat blepharitis, or eyelid inflammation, with over-the-counter products. However, in some cases, part of the cyst remains for weeks or even months after self-treatment. That’s why we recommend having eye cyst removal treatment at our Inverness skin clinic.

• Who will carry out eye cyst removal?

  Emma herself is an Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner and frequently carries out the treatment. A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse (RN) with specialist training in a particular area. They’re able to diagnose, treat and educate people without the need for a Doctor.

• Will my eye scar?

  No, the area shouldn’t scar, and you won’t need stitches to close the cyst afterwards. However, some bruising can occur in and around the area, though this typically passes in a few days.

• What if I don't treat my eye cyst?

  There’s a chance the oil glands could become infected or further inflamed, which could cause further problems down the line. However, in some cases, eye cysts can clear up on their own.
